On May 7, 1942 when being flown by Weldon Hamilton and Gordon Gardner, they scored the first hit between carriers. The next day, on May 8, 1942, it was flown by Robert Buchan and Forest Stanley when they shot down a Kate and landed on USS Yorktown (CV-5) because their home carrier USS Lexington was sinking.
